THOMAS HEWITT 1675

In the name of God,amen,the Fourteenth day of July 1675 according to the confirmation of the Church of England.I THOMAS HEWITT of Bohill in the parish of Torpenhow and County of Cumberland,yeoman,being of perfect memory and rememberence,Praised be to God.

I do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

First:I giveeth my soul into the hands of Almighty God,my maker hoping through his meritorious death and passion of Jesus Christ my saviour and redeemer for free pardon of my sins and as for my body to be buried in Christian burial at the discretion of my family and relations.

Item;I give unto my eldest son JOHN HEWITT five shillings,to the wife of the said JOHN five shillings and to his first born child five shillings.

Item; I give unto my son THOMAS HEWITT twenty shillings and to the said THOMAS wife twenty shillings.

Item;I give to my son WILLIAM four pounds.

Item;I give to my daughter MARY four pounds

Item;All the rest of my legacy and goods I give unto my son JOSEPH for ever upon condition yet to pay all my debts and legacies,and I do make him my sole executor of this my last will and testament.In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
