In the name of God,Amen,I GEORGE HEWITT of Close Gap in the Parish of Kirk Andrews on Esk in the County of Cumberland,farmer.Being of sound,disposing mind and memory understanding but mindful of my mortality do this 16th day of February in the year of our Lord make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following,that is to say,First I give unto my son in law JAMES IRVING the farm of Close Gap with stock,crop and household furniture.Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter MARY IRVING wife of the above named JAMES IRVING five rooms in the High house situate in Longtown.I also give and bequeath unto my three grandsons GEORGE IRVING,DAVID IRVING and JAMES IRVING the low houses situate also in Longtown to be equally divided amongst them.Also I give unto my five granddaughters,JANE POTTS wife of JOSEPH POTTS,ELIZABETH IRVING,JANAT IRVING, MARY IRVING and MARGERET IRVING the sum of ten pounds sterling and also the rest and residue of my estate whatsoever and where ever and what nature ,kind and quality soever the same may be after payment of my debts,legacies,funeral expense and expense of proving this my will.It is my desire that it shall be equally divided amongst the persons before mentioned in this my will and I do hereby make and ordain,constitute to appoint JAMES IRVING my son in law the REV,JOHN Saymson? NICHOL,Clerk of Longtown executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former other wills and testaments by me at any time heretofore made.In witness thereof I have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal ,the day the first above written .GEORGE HEWITT his mark,signed sealed ,published and declared by the said testator GEORGE HEWITT as for his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence in the presence of each other subscribed our names as witness thereto,
